Is this the squad that can lift the trophy for England in Germany?

England have named their 23-man squad for the friendlies leading up to the Euros. They will face Belgium and Brazil.

This squad includes the regulars; England captain Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Jordan Pickford and Phil Foden, all of these players have played in at least two major competitions for England.

There are a few debutants, Kobbie Mainoo, Jarrad Braithwaite and Anthony Gordon. All three of the debutants do play week in week out for Premier League teams so they know what it is like to play at the top level. This also follows Gareth Southgate's regular pre-tournament pattern, giving a few new players a chance to impress in March before picking his squad in late May/early June.

There is a lot of expectation on the Three Lions' shoulders which at times has not helped them by being knocked out of competitions early, including in the World Cup in the quarter finals even if it was to finalists France. They have also one of the most talented squads from their goalkeepers to their attackers, it’s also not just their first 11 that is quality it’s their whole squad. With all 23 players playing in the top league of men’s football, can England live up to their expectation?

There are several threats to England's potential title bid however. Champions Italy have re-built their squad from the ground up since missing out on the 2022 World Cup and look almost as dangerous as they did three years ago. Nations League champions Spain are looking almost unplayable with their outrageous range of midfield options and Portugal boast one of the most dangerous attacks any country has brought to a Euros.

With this potentially being Southgate’s last competition in charge, England will want to leave his reign on the highest of highs and bring home the trophy that he very nearly got his hands on. There has been a lot of talk about Southgate’s seven-year reign from fans not liking his style of football but when it comes back to reigniting a nation and giving them hope he has brought that back and there is honest belief that they can win a trophy soon. Will Southgate get that trophy before he steps away?

Will it finally come home for Southgate’s side, how well do you think England will do in the Euros?
