January is nearly over meaning that the Winter transfer window has come close to a close. Let’s have a look back the best WSL transfers this month!
January has been a very hectic month for the WSL, with many injuries and transfers and deadline day is always a treat! It is extremely exciting news for 18 year-old, Keira Flannery, who has signed her first professional contract with her childhood club, West Ham. She has joined Reading on loan for a two-and-a-half year contract, with an option of a further year.
Another West Ham player who is exiting the club is Lisa Evans, joining Bristol City Women. The 31-year-old midfielder made 61 appearances for the club during her two-and-a-half season spell in East London, which initially saw her join on loan from Arsenal. Her first opponent for her new side was in fact her old club, West Ham. Sadly, her fresh start to her new club didn’t end so well, as Bristol City were beaten by The Hammers, 2-1.
There is exciting news in West London, as Chelsea have signed Mayra Ramirez from Levante. Chelsea have broken January transfer records in the WSL, as Ramirez was signed for £384,000, including a total add ons of £42,000. This is the highest transfer in British women’s football. Mayra Ramirez made 27 league appearances for Levante in the 2022-23 season, scoring a total of 14 goals and getting 11 assists. In addition, she has scored 6 in 7 for her club this year, which made her such a target woman for Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Futhermore, Welsh international and Spurs midfielder, Angharaf James, is set join Seattle Reign on a two-year deal. The midfielder did not train with the squad on Saturday and was left out of Sunday's defeat by Manchester City. Her future still lies uncertain with the club, but we’ll have to see in the upcoming hours, what is in store for the 29 year-old.
There’s just hours left of the January transfer window, but we don’t know what lies in store.
