West Ham are officially safe!

The WSL side will be competing in the topflight for another year.

After Shannon Cooke equalised in the 90th minute away at Everton, it meant that bottom side, Bristol City, had to get at least a point against top of the table Manchester City to still have a lifeline. Unfortunately for them they lost 4-0 with all goals coming in the second half to send them straight back down to the championship.

The Hammers didn’t start the campaign the way they would have liked, and relegation looked on the cards from a very early stage. On paper West Ham have one of the better sides, but since they got Rehanne Skinner in things didn’t always go to plan. In January she signed players that have played her style before, and things started to click, and West Ham started to look a lot better side, with wins coming against Arsenal in the process.

There will be many in and out goings again for Skinner’s side, but she needs to make sure she keeps hold of, Mackenzie Arnold, Kirsty Smith, Riko Ueki and Viviane Asseyi going into next year. These are the players that have really kicked on throughout the season and are only looking to be better next year. With Mary Earps expecting to leave Manchester United in the summer, it will be looking like they will try and sign Arnold again, but the hammers will try their best to keep their star captain.

One thing that will need to change for next season is their goals conceded record, Skinner prides her teams as hard to break down, but they have conceded 41 goals this year. Another issue is with these defensive stats it is a must you have high attacking stats at they have only managed to score 18 in 20 games. Injuries have been an issue for the Hammers defensively but if they concede anything near that number next year it will be another relegation fight.

How well do you think the Hammers will do next season?
