Another Chaotic North London derby

Over the weekend on Sunday we saw the second sell out emirates in a row host Tottenham Hotspur women in a WSL fixture.

As expected it was full of controversial moments, with the game ending 1-0 after a defensive mistake from the visitors saw Alessia Russo tap one in during the 49th minute. Overall the first half was some of the best football fans have seen from spurs who are sitting at sixth place currently in the WSL this season. Arsenal continued to fight with ending the match with 14 shots compared to Tottenhams 6. However for the reds only 4 being on target made it an evenly match within the final stages of attack as spurs achieved 3 on target. As the derby never fails to be full of emotion, that was reflected in the 19 fouls being made in total by the north London sides and having 5 yellow cards throughout the game.

The game ended up being a sentimental game for many people, firstly England captain Leah Williamson makes her longly anticipated return to the emirates sold out after being out for a substantial period of time due to her ACL injury and then a hamstring issue which stopped her making an appearance when the London side faced Manchester United.

Another interesting point from this weekends key fixture was the mistake that arsenal made within their match day program, key eyed fans noticed. It was all on the Tottenham Hotspur squad page, with a picture not matching the player and numbers not being correct made fans question how the program was able to pass all of the quality checks. Fans took to X to express their confusion with the issue and are hoping arsenal will apologise for the interesting mistake. This has sparked the question regarding if it was another team who published the program with mistakes on the arsenal squad list, would social media have been harsher on them due to their large fanbase presence on social media platforms?

Not only was it an important game to the 60,050 supporters in attendance but the backroom staff at arsenal. With this marking the first all female groundkeeper team for the derby. This shows how women's football is becoming a space for females to not only support but given the opportunities to work in male dominated spaces.
