As the final of the Women's FA Cup Final beckons, it is a chance for Tottenham to end this unlikely cup run with their first piece of FA Cup silverware in their history.
Immortality is looking the Lilywhites in the face as they look to win the Women's FA Cup for the first time. They have had a magic turnaround from their relegation threats from last year to a point where they were top of the WSL to start the season, similar to the men's team. However, as their league form may have dwindled out, their form in the cup grew and the unlikely became a reality; a trip to Wembley Stadium with the chance and hope of immortality beckoning.
There seems to be an aura of positivity being instilled by new manager Villanham who has said that "we shouldn't be here but here we are". So far in the cup, Tottenham have seemingly showed heart and resiliency, even if the team has not been as clinical as they had been up until that point. All wins to advance in the FA Cup have come late in the second half, showing a never say die attitude, whch can excite fans.
The cup run started with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Sheffield United after The Blades went 2-0 up. Rose Ayane scored the game winner in the sixth minute of additional time. The next round was Tottenham welcoming Charlton Athletic after having gone through a three game streak without a win. The only goal of the game came through Kit Graham with just under fifteen minutes left of play. However, the next game was the trikiest of them all...
Tottenham welcomed league leaders Manchester City for the Quarter-finals; a team who had scored ten goals against Spurs in three separate games and Tottenham had not registered a single reply. The game started off a similar way to previous encounters with Manchester City gaining the lead within the first ten minutes. However, Bethany England equalised in the sixth minute of stoppage time and Spurs forced penalties, in which they ran out victors 4-3 to advance into the semi finals. In the semi finals, they faced Leicester CIty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a shot at getting to Wembley on the line.
As they had done for most of the tournament, they took an early deficit in the first half. However, they forced extra time and scored in the 118th minute of play through Jessica Naz to make history and reach the FA Cup final in the unlikeliest of ways.
Now, there is only one team standing in their way on May 12th of achieving immortality. That will be the team that Tottenham haven't defeated in their last ten meetings, with Tottenham only mustering up two draws; Manchester United. The question now is whether Tottenham can once again overcome the odds like they have done since the season begun or if the women's team will be plagued with being Spursy? Only time will tell...
