Women’s Championship Title Race

With 5 games to go, it is still all to play for in the title race that could go down to the wire.

Currently sitting top are Bristol City on 39 points. Out of the 17 games played they have won 12 with 3 draws and only 2 losses.

Keeper Fran Bentley is top of the list for the most clean sheets so far with 10 and only needs 1 more to beat her record last season. Lauren Smith’s side are looking to bounce back from last weekends loss ahead of the trip to fourth placed Southampton at St Mary’s. The robins are looking to get their place back in the top division after getting relegated from the WSL to the Championship in the 2020/2021 season.

London city Lionesses sit in 2nd place just 3 points behind Bristol. They are looking to continue to apply pressure onto the leaders after beating the Robins 2-0 last weekend.

Atlanta Primus netted twice in the second half as they went into a 2 goal lead less than 10 minutes after the restart. They next travel to face a Durham side who have one of the best home results in the league so will have to be at their best to take all 3 points away from Maiden Castle.

Charlton Athletic sit 3rd in the league, 9 points behind top spot and 6 points behind London city with a game in hand to play. They had a disappointing result last game by dropping points in a 1-1 draw to Blackburn Rovers that could become costly by the end of the season.

The title race for the Addicks isn’t gone however it would take a lot with only 5 games remaining. Charlton still have two big away games coming up against London City Lionesses and Bristol City. These are massive games for these three sides as it could determine who gets the hands on the trophy at the end of the season.
