Will this be the best Premier League title race of all time?

The top 6 teams are currently only seperated by 9 points as teams gear into the Christmas period of the season.

Historically in the premier league, teams tend to run away from the pack early doors, with Arsenal and Manchester City doing it last season and Manchester City and Liverpool having done it through much of the late 2010s and early 2020s. But this season seems to be promising a more exciting season for neutrals as all six of the top six currently could have a fighting chance should things go their way in the second half of the season.

The instance of how tight the league has come can be seen through Tottenham Hotspur. In gameweek 10, they sat 10 points clear of Arsenal. However, since then they have lost 4 and drawn only once to bring them down to 5th, 9 points now behind the Gunners in pole position. This volatility at the top of the premier league table is something that has been lacking for years, but there are some logical reasons to why these could be happening.

For one, there has been an increase in the amount of injury time played this season with games commonly now going over the 100 minute threshold. This has allowed for exciting moments and dramatic scorelines and moments in the Premier League, such as Declan Rice's 90 +7 minute winner against Luton Town on Tuesday night. The increase in playing time however has had some negative repercussions for players and teams as well.

Injuries have become huge problems for many clubs, such as Tottenham Hotspur due to the amount of football now being played. Tottenham Hotspur lost two key players in their 4-1 defeat at home against Chelsea with defender Micky Van Der Ven forced off as well as midfield maestro James Maddison, who had been key to their attacks. As well as this, they have lost the likes of super sub Manor Solomon, Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ivan Perisic. Accumulatively, these injuries have resulted in Spurs not winning a single game since that defeat to Chelsea, opening up the opportunity for other teams to fight for their place at the top of the Premier League table.

With everything going on, this season could be anyone's game should they draw the lucky end of the stick, making this one of the more entertaining and thriling seasons of the Premier League we have experienced.
