Who's in the race for the golden glove?

Mia Reid

With only a few games remaining in the WSL, the race for the golden glove is still up for grabs between Manchester United’s Mary Earps and Arsenal’s Manuela Zinsberger.

Mary Earps, has been in excellent form for not only club but also country by playing a crucial part in England’s success, by keeping 4 clean sheets and only conceding 2 goals in the entire euros tournament and was awarded the best goalkeeper by FIFA.

She is leading the race with 12 clean sheets in 19 games. She has already overtaken her score from last season where she ended the season on 10 clean sheets.

Manchester United have the best defensive record in the league with only 11 goals conceded. That works out to be roughly 0.58 goals per game. Earps has the record for the most clean sheets in WSL history with 51.

Zinsberger is next in trying to compete with Earps. She will be looking to win back to back golden gloves after winning the award last season where she kept 13 clean sheets .

She signed for Arsenal in 2019 from Bayern Munich and has been on top form since her arrival. She has 9 clean sheets and has two games in hand over Earps. Arsenal are joined with United for the best defensive record with both teams conceding 11 goals.

If Zinsberger keeps a clean sheet in Arsenals two games in hand, it will be interesting to see in the final 3 games who will be getting their hands on the award at the end of the season.
