Brentford were promoted to the Premier League two seasons ago in 2021 and faced speculation to whether their team was strong enough to challenge and remain in the division. Despite the critics the Bees survived their first season and brushed aside the so called second season syndrome many fans believed Thomas Frank's men would be hit with. Now in their third successive season Frank's men are a prem proven side who are constantly growing and fighting for more success.
Just like any new team promoted to the first division of English football, Brentford were faced with immense competition. However after beating Arsenal on opening day back in 2021, it was clear that as a team they were there to stay. The work Danish manger Thomas Frank has put in to ensure his side are now sustainable in the league should be admired. His tactical approach to games usually switching from a 433 to a 532 depending on opposition has earned the team credibility to apply their style of football, making it hard for other sides to pick up points against them.
The key to Brentford and Frank's success is the community and relations he has built around the club. As a community Brentford are all about caring for the fans and the performances of the players reflect that. Frank has structured a team who play for each other they're no individuals which creates a buzzy passionate atmosphere. The squad is rotational so if there are absences Frank will always have a plan up his sleeve. A recent example being the decision to play natural winger Saman Ghoddos at right wing back who was able to keep Luton's danger man Chiedozie Ogbene quiet. Frank is able to think on the spot and control a game with his choices and this wins him the trust of the players who are always willing to play out of position when instructed.
Frank deserves a lot of praise for this season in particular which has been up-and-down. The squad has been full of injuries and of course the main headline for this season was the suspension of star striker Ivan Toney. However even with this setback Frank has found ways to overcome the troubles. Neal Maupay is finding his feet in a front three with fellow teammates Yohann Wissa and Bryan Mbuemo and considering that as a player Maupay had only registered one goal the whole of last season the fact he is starting to assist and score now can only suggest Frank is playing tactically to his strengths. This highlights how effective Frank is when communicating and commanding his players to do a job, there is so much respect and professionalism throughout the team which translates onto the pitch and how the squad would never try to let their manager down.
Thomas Frank's journey so far has been one to remember and everyone around Brentford believe he is the right man to carry the bees further down this positive pathway. The season will throw many more unexpected twists in his direction but there is no doubt Frank has made the Bees prem proven and who knows maybe there is European success for the future.
