The WSL Countdown has commenced!

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

The WSL has only six game weeks left and it’s all still to play for. The gap being 1st and 4th place is tightening up and it look like it is going to do down to the wire.

Manchester United and Manchester City currently both sit at the top of the WSL table on 38 points, with United just edging them on goal difference. One point behind the two Manchester sides is, Chelsea and currently sitting in 4th in the WSL and on 35 points, is Arsenal. However, Chelsea and Arsenal both have a game in hand which could see them rise to the top of the WSL table.

The most impressive side these last six matches in the WSL have been Manchester city, who are on an excellent run of form. They have lost two matches in all competitions since September and have won their last five WSL matches. They have had some incredible results beating Arsenal 2-1 back in February and recently beating current league holders Chelsea, by two goals to nil, last weekend. The last time that Chelsea couldn't score a goal in a match was back in February 2022, over a year ago, in their goalless draw against Arsenal.

Emma Hayes' side ended their unbeaten run this calendar year in the WSL at the weekend, after loosing by two goals to nil against Manchester City. This is only Chelsea's second loss in the WSL this season, along with Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal, who has all also only lost twice each this season. Last weekend in the Champions League against Lyon, Chelsea captain Millie Bright was forced to exit the pitch due to a muscle injury. This resulted in her being left out of Manchester City's matchday squad. She is hoping to be back soon, in return for the next WSL match against Aston Villa.

Although Arsenal currently sit 4th, which is not where they would want to be, they have had have three consecutive wins in a row beating Spurs, Reading and Liverpool. However, they arguably have the toughest run yet, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all still to play them.

Manchester United are currently top of the WSL table and have been on excellent form. They recently battered West Ham by four goals to nil and at the moment, they look unstoppable. We will have to see where these last six games take us, and who can become victorious.
