The Arnold Cup squad announced

The Lionesses will be playing South Korea, Italy and Belgium in February to retain the Arnold Cup.

Sarina Weigman has named her 26 player squad which has included a first senior call up for goalkeeper Emily Ramsay.

The Everton goalkeeper has kept 6 clean sheets already this season so there’s no surprise she has been called up.

It is also a first call up for Laura Coombs since November 2020, the 32-year-old is hoping to make her 3rd senior cap for her nation.

Leah Williamson goes straight back into the team, after her recent hamstring injury, to captain the side.

As is stands Rachel Daly has been picked as a defender, but with her superior goal scoring record at Aston Villa, will it change the mind of Weigman to push her forward.

Even after her move to Tottenham and scoring two in two for them, Bethany England has not been picked for the competition.

A main talking point is that out of the 26 players that have been selected for the Arnold Cup only 16 of them are players that were in the Euro winning team.

This just shows from the many injured for the Lionesses, plus the players that went onto retire, they will need to find new connections in the team if they want to go on to win the World Cup.

The Arnold Cup will be played at Coventry, Milton Keynes and Bristol’s stadium from the 16th- 22nd of February.
