South Korea and Germany took each other on in their final group game of the tournament, with South Korea looking to get their first points of the tournament after two disappointing losses, whereas Germany will want to do what they can to secure a place in the knockout stages, but it is not in their favour with Morocco and Colombia both still in the running for first and second.
The game started quickly for Germany when Alexx Popp was gifted the ball from South Korea within the first two minutes of the game, and from 30 yards out, she took her first chance, but her shot lacked pace and was easily collected by the goalkeeper.
Not long after, South Korea's sixteen-year-old Phair should have put South Korea ahead, thanks to poor German defending, but Frohm was there to push Phair's shot wide quickly from close range, Germany began playing nervously whilst, in contrast, South Korea was extremely confident and put a lot of pressure on Germany.
South Korea's pressure on Germany would eventually pay off as a slick pass through a fragile German defence reached an unmarked Cho; she kept her cool and slide the ball into the corner, giving South Korea the lead after six minutes.
South Korea's pressure would continue long into the first half voiding many of the opportunities Germany was attempting to create, eventually they would find something that would work as an attack down the right would create a wonderful cross into the box by Huth that found the experienced Popp who rose above the defender and headed the ball home into the corner in the final minutes of the first half.
The second half began with Germany creating pressure; goalscorer Popp was fouled 35 yards from goal, creating their first potential attacking opportunity of the second half; however, it was a poor set-piece routine and resulted in a South Korean goal kick.
South Korea would go on to have a counter-attack of their own that a resilient German defence would shut down; Germany would then take their chances against South Korea on another counter-attack that would see a ball aimed towards Popps again, who would clatter into goalkeeper Kim to get the ball across the line and after a VAR check the goal was ruled out.
Germany would continue their momentum after their disallowed goal, which would see another ball fall into the box, where Popp would rise yet again to head the ball, but it would find the crossbar.
After a large period of German pressure and resilient Korean defending, South Korea was awarded a corner; Ji swung it into the box and looked like it was going straight in, giving Germany a scare after being dominant in the second half.
Another chance would come for Popp, as a deep cross was sent into the box for her to attack, but her header wasn't powerful enough, adding to another chance that Germany failed to convert.
South Korea would be behind the ball in the last ten minutes of the game, preventing any opportunity that Gemrnay was attempting to create, making them increasingly frustrated, given that results elsewhere were not in their favour.
Germany created a clear chance to go ahead as a ball was delivered towards Popp, but the experienced goalkeeper Kim flew forward to collect the ball, who had been a key player in Korea's breakdown of the German attack.
Deep into added time, Hegering would give away an unnecessary foul on goalscorer Cho, which would see the midfielder stretchered off and give Korea an opportunity to go ahead, but the strike would only find a teammate and deflect out for a German goal kick.
Lohmann would have one of Germany's last remaining opportunities to go ahead and get the much-needed three points, but her effort would sail wide of the goal and didn't trouble South Korea's Kim; another opportunity would quickly fall for Lohmann again and sail over the crossbar.
No matter how hard Germany fought in the closing minutes of the game, they could not find the winning goal they needed to continue at the World Cup, but ultimately South Korea's almost unstoppable defence would provide too much and send one of the tournament's favourites home.
