Parris Extension and Terland Signing: A Promising Statement for United's Attack

Holly Porter

Despite much speculation that she might be leaving Manchester United this summer, it has been announced that Nikita Parris has extended her contract at the club until summer 2025.

The 30-year-old signed for the club in 2022, on a two-year contract with the option to extend a further year, which has now been exercised.

Since her signing, she has had a huge impact on United’s attack, scoring 16 goals across all competitions in her last campaign, making her the side’s top scorer across 2023/24.

She also scored 4 goals in the 2022/23 Women’s FA Cup, helping Skinner’s side get to their first FA Cup final.

A further 3 FA Cup goals this campaign played a huge role in the run to a maiden FA Cup victory for United at Wembley Stadium back in May.

She has also tallied up 71 senior caps for England since her debut in April 2016, scoring 17 goals for her country and being part of the Lionesses squad that made history with their European Championship win in 2022.

She was also part of the Lyon team that won the Champions League back in 2020, yet another huge achievement for Parris, and another that shows her experience on the biggest stages.

The announcement of her contract extension comes shortly after fellow Lionesses Mary Earps and Katie Zelem depart the club after the expiration of their contracts.

Skinner’s side finished a disappointing 5th in the WSL last season, and Parris will have to continue her goalscoring form to not only help United move back up the table but to also help the side defend their FA Cup title.

She will have new signing Elisabeth Terland for competition, however, with the 23-year-old completing a two-year deal, with the option to extend for a further year, from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Norwegian international scored 20 goals in 39 league appearances for Brighton, 13 of which came in the last campaign.

A total of 15 goals across all competitions last season also made her Brighton’s top scorer, showing her attacking dominance.

A promising two players for United’s attack, both Parris and Terland will no doubt be able to produce many opportunities in the 2024/25 campaign, having the potential to be the difference across several games in all competitions.
