Norwich City finally get their season up and running with a 2-1 win at home to last year's play off finalists Huddersfield Town.
Norwich went into this game with a number of injury problems which saw Kenny Mclean play as Left-Back despite normally playing in midfield and also sounds like Norwich top performing player in the championship last time Teemu Pukki had an injury which kept him out of the team and saw him replace by a very fired up Josh Sargent after his heroics with him scoring the winning penalty against Birmingham Mid-week.
Josh Sargent was the first of many to have a chance at scoring a goal but after some skills from Max Aarons crossed the ball in the box and it was met by Sargent who headed it went just over the bar after just 3 minutes.
Not long after about 6 minutes a very well worked pass out wide from Kieran Dowell found Daniel Sinani on the wing who then managed to sprint down the wing and then put the ball in the box and it found the head of Josh Sargent who put it into the far bottom corner to put the canaries 1-0 up inside the first 10 mins.
Then not long after that Daniel Sinani had his chance created by Josh Sargent he then gets in and then taps the ball into the back of the net to put the Canaries 2-0 up after just 15 minutes.
Huddersfield's first major chance was in the 37th minute when Jack Rudoni had a decent shot from outside of the box and forced Krul to make an important save to keep the Canaries in front. Not long after this Huddersfield had a free kick not long before half time but Tim Krul comfortably saved to take Norwich half time with 2-0 lead.
Then not long after the 2nd half commencing Josh Sargent again found himself through on goal only to be brought down by Tom Lees who pulled him down and saw the referee give him a straight red card making Huddersfield challenge even more difficult.
Norwich then got a double chance on the 73rd Minute Jordan Hugill header cleared off the line by Nicholls and then Sinani had shot off the rebound, but it went just over the crossbar.
Not long after that Onel Hernandez and Gabriel Sara both had 2 more opportunities, but both were saved comfortably by the Terriers keeper Nicholls.
Huddersfield got a consolation goal through Pat Jones just after the 80th minute and Huddersfield put Norwich under some serious pressure in the last 10 minutes. But Norwich kept them at bay and was able to secure the first league win of the season.
Dean Smith commented on Josh Sargent form by saying “I’m really pleased for Sarge, he has come in because Teemu has a swollen foot to the point he couldn’t get his boots on. Was nice to see him and Daniel form that Relationship on the pitch both performing very well.”
Huddersfield Town boss Danny Schofield said “I was very pleased with his team's second half performance and has shown the club and its fans showed real togetherness and real grit to try and get them back into the contest.”
