Moise Kean: Redemption In Florence

Eight years ago, Moise Kean became Juventus' youngest-ever debutant as well as one of the first players born in the 2000s to play in Europe's top five leagues and the UEFA Champions League. However, throughout his career so far, Kean has struggled to live up to his early form that saw him make his senior debut for Italy at 18.

In the summer of 2024, Kean transferred to Fiorentina where he has certainly found his feet again with 13 goals in 16 games across all competitions for the club so far as they sit 4th in Serie A. Kean is becoming a vital part of La Viola's plans to compete for silverware this season.

Despite winning a domestic double in his first season at Juventus, he was expectedly loaned out at first to Hellas Verona and, from then on, bounced around teams across Europe, going back to Juventus just to be sent back out to the likes of Everton and PSG.

It even looked like he would join Atletico Madrid permanently in January of this year, but luck wasn't be on his side as his tibia injury still had not fully recovered.

Despite his remarkable potential, Moise Kean has struggled with inconsistency in his form. He has long needed to find a club and coach to help him evolve into a lethal and elite striker.

In July 2024, Moise Kean signed for Fiorentina a month after new head coach Raffaele Paladino took charge. This was precisely what Kean needed to rekindle his career, and he needed the perfect coach.

Palladino was a Serie A and Serie B striker who spent part of his career in the Juventus youth setup, so no one better than him can change the ability of an attacker like Moise Kean.

Although Mosie Kean has enormous potential, his level of play can often vary. This is where Palladino is crucial. He is known for his ability to motivate and develop players, which can help Kean become more consistent and decisive in key moments. This is needed, especially in the current close title race in Serie A.

Fiorentina has played two styles so far this season, and in both, Kean has been bolstered by Palladino's style of play as he likes to play possession football, and whilst it may not be like one of Pep Guardiola's sides, Palladino tends to go for more controlled football, where they can utilise their possession to disorganise the opposition's defenders.

Palladino also likes to build from the back, expects his players to apply intense pressure, and his teams are often lethal on the counterattack.

If you look at his coaching style overall, Kean is an ideal fit for this Fiorentina side as he helps enhance space, has the pace to help with high pressing, and is adaptable. This can see him play as a centre forward but also in wider positions when asked, which allows him to unsettle opposing defences and suits Palladino's flexible approach.

Having only scored 14 goals and recorded 3 assists in 104 appearances over the last three seasons, it is already clear to see this season that Mosie Kean is starting to showcase the potential that he has always had.

Kean has racked up 13 goals and 1 assist in 17 appearances for La Viola, hitting double figures for only the second time in his career after only previously doing so in the 20/21 season when he scored 19 goals in 45 appearances.

Despite being eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Serie B side Empoli, Fiorentina are in fourth place in Serie A and three points behind league leaders Atalanta in this season's tight title race. They are in the top half of the Conference League table, aiming to reach a third and hopefully more successful final.

Kean's arrival at Fiorentina is game-changing for the club this season. His blend of pace, physicality, and clinical finishing adds a dynamic edge to the team's attacking options, which were often inconsistent last season.

Fiorentina has struggled to find a reliable goal-scoring presence. Kean's proven ability to perform in high-pressure situations could be the missing piece in their quest for European qualification.

His versatility allows him to adapt to different tactical setups, making him a valuable asset in Palladino's system. If he stays fit and motivated, Kean could be vital to Fiorentina's resurgence in Serie A and Europe.
