It is an end of an era for West Ham United?

Conference League winning manager David Moyes will be leaving his role at the end of the season.

There have been many times where the Scotsman hasn’t had the credit he deserved but it seems like this is the right time after many bad results that his time at the club comes to an end. He will go down as a legend for West Ham and if you told their fans when he joined his was going to win them a European trophy after 3 years not many would have believed you. But he did on June 7th, 2023.

When he joined the Hammers in January 2019, they sat 1 place off the relegation zone; he managed to keep them up quite easily in the end, then since then it has only gone upwards for them.  He has won 117 games as West Ham boss, with a win % of 44.3 with 2 games left. He has the highest win rate of any manager to manage the Claret and Blue side.

Moyes prides himself of having a hard-working team and that was what he brought to the club, players that constantly worked for the badge and for the fans, and he would never shy away of letting players know if they weren’t working hard enough. One of the prime examples of this is Jarrod Bowen, he was signed from the Championship side, Hull City in 2020 and he was a very hard-working player, and Moyes kept telling him “If you keep working harder you will be a top Premier League footballer,” now look at him.

As one manager departs another one enters and as of now it is looking like ex Sevilla and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is the next man.

He took Wolves from bottom place to 13th in half a season on a very low budget. He has also won the Europa league with Sevilla, which is one of West Ham’s main goals going forward after they won the UEFA Conference League. The difference from when he managed in the Premier League the first time to now is the amount of money he can spend. With many players set to leave, Lopetegui will be able to completely rebuild his side to the way he wants it and to get players in who understand how he wants to play football. This could carry on and be an even more progressive few years for the Hammers.

How well do you think Lopetegui will do at West Ham?
