Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move away from the bridge in recent times, but is the business of the club the driving factor of his exit?
Ever since the arrival of Mr Boehly and his investments, much of the capital can be said to have been 'misemployed'. Spending over £1 billion over the past 18 months is not something Chelsea fans would take lightly if results do not come hand in hand.
Although the American businessman has chosen to acquire younger players with added potential, there has been a lack of leaders in the Chelsea dressing room. After being criticized for his outgoings last summer, could selling an academy graduate who understands the responsibility of playing for the badge to gain insignificant economic stability, be another step in the wrong direction for the new owner.
To cover up some of their losses in the finanial window, the club have moved their attention to Connor Gallagher. The 23 year old England international has been a key linchpin for the minor successes of this Chelsea side over the past 2 years and a move away from his boyhood club may be a little unjustified from the Blue's board.
Gallagher has over 50 appearances for the Blue's and has been named captain of the squad on occasion this season, which shows the vast amount of trust Pochettino has in the England international.
Hardworking and passionate midfielders with exceptional versitility are especially hard to come by, not to mention being a product of Chelsea's academy system. Tottenham and West Ham seem to be the teams most invested in the 23 year old, but could a switch to the other sides of London hinder the reputation of a home grown talent?
The asking price from Chelsea is deemed to be upwards of £80 million.
Conor Gallagher is not the only academy prospect Chelsea are willing to exchange for cash, as Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah have the potential to be sold before transfer deadline day. With just 18 months left on his contract and looking no closer to extend, a move away could be imminent.
Just as we approached Christmas last year, Pochettino stated that the potential transfer was to be decided "between the player and the club".
"I'm coaching the team, trying to make the best choice as possible to perform. At the moment, so far, he's doing well, fantastic for the team. He's playing because he deserves".
Coming to an agreement with Chelsea's board can be quite tricky as seen with previous transfers with the likes of Mason Mount, however if a club can meet the £80 million asking price placed on Conor Gallagher, only one conclusion is foreseeable.
