Fiery FA Cup replays in action this week!

Chelsea face Aston Villa in an FA Cup 4th Round replay on Wednesday night after a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in original tie.

4th in the Premier League table, Aston Villa hosts London side Chelsea, who are currently sitting in 10th position in the league. This is one of their worst standings in Premier League history this far into a season and with no European Football to play for, it will be important for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea fans to fight for some silverware this year.

Aston Villa have been performing outstandingly so far this season, playing 23 matches in the Premier League, winning 14, drawing 4 and losing 5. This is a major improvement compared to the position Villa were in only a few seasons ago. Back in the 2019-2020 season, Villa finished 17th in the Premier League table, avoiding relegation by only a point and now they are competing for Champions League football.

On the flip side, Chelsea are having one of their worst seasons in their Premier League history. From winning the Champions League in Porto back in 2021, to now only winning 9 out of 23 Premier League games this season, their standard has dropped massively. Their game against Aston Villa on Wednesday night is a vital one for The Blues in order to challenge for silverware this season and to get Mauricio Pochettino something for the trophy cabinet.

The original meeting between Chelsea and Aston Villa ended a goalless draw which is what has led to the replay at Villa Park on Wednesday night. Chelsea had a total of 10 shots, with 4 on target, whereas Aston Villa had a total of 13 shots and 5 on target, but none managed to hit the back of the net.

The Blues are going to have to step up their performance if they want to secure their place in the 5th Round. Chelsea’s last two performances since their last meeting with Aston Villa have possibly been their worst performances of the season, loosing 4-1 to Liverpool and 4-2 to Wolves within the space of a week. We will have to see if this can change on Wednesday night.

Wednesday night will be the decider to see who will make it into the 5th round of the FA Cup against Leeds United. But will it be Aston Villa, or will it be Chelsea?
