East Anglian bragging rights on the line

We are just 20 days away from one of the most anticipated East Anglian Derbies since the play-off semi finals in the 2014-15 season.

Norwich City won the 2014-15 play-offs semi-finals over their local rivals Ipswich Town 4-2 on aggregate. They played the 1st leg at Portman Road infront of over 29,000 onlookers as Johnny Howson nudged the Canaries infront. However, Ipswich managed to get the very important equaliser thanks to a goal from Paul Anderson.

The 2nd leg ended Ipswich Town's hopes for promotion. They were very quickly shattered that season as just 5 minutes into the 2nd half of the game they had Christophe Berra sent off for a deliberate handball and he also gave away a penalty which Hoolahan stepped up and dispatched to give Norwich the lead. Ipswich equalised thanks to a very good finish from Tommy Smith. However, Norwich went on to score 2 goals thanks to Nathan Redmond and Cameron Jerome.

Ipswich Town fans have endured multiple managers and more importantly mismanagement from Marcus Evans led to the demise of the once massive club. However, since 2021, Marcus Evans sold his shares in the club to the American Investment firm GameChanger 20 Ltd for around the £40 million mark.

However, more importantly they were able to write off a significant amount of debt which was rumoured to be around the £100 million mark with the investment firm contributing 21 million and then Marcus Evans waived over £80 million which was owed to him.

Ipswich Town since then have been on the up and now as we speak are in contention for back-to-back automatic promotions going from League One to the Premier League. They have picked up a number of extremely important games and the game above sums this up very well.

Kieran McKenna came in back in December 2021 and came into a team who struggled mentally when they went behind and he changed them so that they don't fear anyone infront of them and this has been proven multiple times in the past 2 seasons they have gone behind and in previous seasons they would have lost but this changed and they for the most part have picked up points.

Norwich will host Ipswich Town at Carrow Road in a highly anticipated fixture and with the added potential of both teams making the play-offs it will only add to the fiery atmosphere.

Who do you think will come out victorious?
