Dominik Szoboszlai: Is He The Future Of Liverpool?

Dominik Szoboszlai has endured a tough start to his Liverpool career. The Hungarian excited Reds all over the globe when he was initially signed for a whopping £60 million pounds last summer. The 23-year-old was the most expensive signing made by Jurgen Klopp as the Merseyside Reds had to undergo serious surgery of their midfield that had been run ragged in the previous season.

Szoboszlai was very impressive in his opening months under Jurgen Klopp in a new look midfield that included Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, and Szoboszlai himself. Many fans thought that he would provide that creativity that had been lacing in Klopp's engine room but the German has deployed him as an 8 this season, with focus on high pressing and a link up with Mohammed Salah.

The Hungarian has ten goals in all competitions this season with seven goals and three assists. The 23-year-old is well known for his ball striking ability and this has been evident in his goals this season with amazing strikes coming against Bournemouth and Leicester.

Despite a very impressive start to his career on Merseyside, Szoboszlai sustained an injury that kept him out for a sustained period of time and since his return, he has not been able to match the form that he displayed at the start of the campaign. Tactically, Jurgen Klopp uses the Hungarian's impeccable stamina as we have seen the dynamic midfielder press excellently and become more of a box-to-box midfielder.

The 23-year-old has some impressive running stats with the midfielder being the most hard working amongst Jurgen Klopp's ranks. His heat map is insane and his work rate has been his most impressive ability thus far this season.

Despite the Hungarians tenacious attitude, his last few games have been very disappointing with some fans even noticing his form for club and country being very different. For Hungary, the midfielder is their main man as he is the captain for his country. Szoboszlai has been heroic for his country and scored again in a 1-0 win over Türkiye this international break.

For his country, Szoboszlai is allowed much more freedom and can express himself much more. If he is to become the main man for Liverpool, he will need to have that freedom that the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold have been allowed. Next season under a new manager we might see the Hungarian flourish and fulfil the insane potential that he possesses.

However, currently, the 23-year-old is full of desire to end Jurgen Klopp's dynasty in the best way possible and he has not hidden his ambitions for the club. " Me personally, I want to win all three, all four actually (trophies). But we have to take it game by game... there is a long way to go and a lot of games." The Hungarian will have to recover the form he displayed at the start of the season if he is to help the Reds win a potential treble, having already won a Carabao cup.

Interestingly, Szoboszlai has won a trophy in every season of his career thus far and he will be looking to add to his collection this season with the Merseyside Reds still in a thrilling title race and a favourable draw in the Europa League. The 23-year-old will have to improve his form and Liverpool could do with him hitting form as they aim to give Jurgen Klopp the fairy-tale ending he deserves.
