Chelsea FC have had another incredible season and manager, Emma Hayes, has led her side to another successful year. Chelsea won their 4th WSL title in a row this May, making it their 6th WSL in the clubs history. They managed to win the league title by two points over Manchester United, after beating Reading 3-0 on the final day of the season. That wasn’t the only time they were victorious over The Red Devils this season, as The Blues beat them in the FA Cup Final, with Sam Kerr’s winner, sealing a 1-0 victory for Chelsea.

Chelsea also had a very successful League Cup and Champions League run, managing to reach the Semi Final of the Champions League and the final of the Continental League Cup. They sadly got beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League Semis and beaten by Arsenal in the Continental League Cup Final at Selhurst Park back in March. Although Chelsea struggled to bring the Champions League home once again this year, they managed to set multiple records which has been brilliant for women’s football.

The Women’s League Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea saw a record-breaking ticket sale, with over 20,000 tickets being sold. This was over double the number of tickets sold for last years final which was 8,004, which saw Manchester City beat Chelsea by three goals to one.

Furthermore, this years Women’s FA Cup Final saw a record breaking 77,390 people attend the final at Wembley, between Chelsea and Manchester United on Sunday 14th May. This major event saw Emma Hayes leading her side to their 3rd consecutive Women’s FA Cup. Besides selling out major stadiums, Chelsea Ladies managed to sell out Stamford Bridge at their WSL game against Spurs, with the attendance being 38,350. This could’ve helped towards Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over London rivals.

After the incredible season that Chelsea have had, they will be saddened to see Pernille Harder and Magdalena Eriksson leave the club. Harder signed for The Blues back in September 2020 on a three-year deal whereas Chelsea captain, Magdalena Eriksson, is departing Chelsea after 108 appearances and six years at the club. The Swedish couple were originally going to return to Sweden to continue their footballing career there, however they have both decided to sign for Bayern Munich on a three-year deal.

Although Chelsea has lost two crucial players, Harder and Eriksson, Chelsea fans will be delighted to hear that Lauren James has extended her contract at Chelsea until 2027. She stated,

It's an amazing feeling to extend my stay at the club I love and where I feel most at home. I’m looking forward to the future and I want to reach my full potential.

I want to be the best version of me as a player and as a person, helping to inspire the next generation. It definitely feels like home, and it’s always been the place I’ve wanted to be."

There's still many weeks to go until deadline day, and only time will tell to see who Chelsea will sign before the new season begins.
