The Australia international who signed for The Blues back in 2019 has managed to score 99 goals in 128 appearances for the West London side. However, it will be a while before she can put more in the back of the net for her team, as she will be out for the foreseeable future with the ACL injury she has picked up.
Chelsea Football Club have made a statement on Sam’s physical state, “Sam will be assessed by a specialist in the coming days and then begin her rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.”
Furthermore, her teammate Guro Reiten, has made a statement on Sam’s condition. Reiten told BBC’s Football Focus, “Yeah. Yeah we did know it was serious. It happened during training and we found out a couple of hours later. Sam's a very good friend. It's hard, because I know how much she wanted to play this season with the Olympics and everything. It's going to be a tough road but we're going to be there for her. Sam puts on a brave face. We are going to miss her so much, not just on the pitch but off the pitch. So we just have to try and be there for her and check in with her."
Sam Kerr posted on her Instagram last week stating that the surgery went well and that she is on the road to recovery. Kerr has been strongly advised against playing at the Paris Olympics following her second ACL injury. However, she is aiming to be back before then to represent her country.
Although the Chelsea forward will be out for the foreseeable future, her side are coping without their top goalscorer. Chelsea have now played two games without Sam Kerr in the side, winning both 3-1. The first beating West Ham in the FA Cup and the second beating Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. They are hoping for this successful run of winning 4 games on the bounce will continue. We will have to wait and see.
