The Reds have reached the halfway point in the season sitting at the top of the pile and their only defeat in the Premier League came in that controversial loss to Spurs away from home.
Before the season started, it looked as if this year would be a transitional year the Redmen but Jurgen Klopp has once again got his team firing on all cylinders. Competing in all competitions even with a depleted squad due to injuries and players away on International duty.
Recent news has seen Liverpool and Egypt's talisman sustain a hamstring injury that will rule him out for a month with a beating desire for the 31-year-old to return for the semi-final if Egypt can make it that far in the tournament.
The Egyptian will return to Merseyside to undergo rehabilitation for the injury and will be keen to head back to AFCON should Egypt progress in the tournament. However, the injury also means that the Merseyside Reds could be without their main man for even longer than originally planned.
Jurgen Klopp's men have excelled without the Egyptian thus far but an injury to either Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota could see the Reds really struggle. Both have been fantastic in Salah's absence and got a brace respectively in Liverpool's 4-0 thrashing in the south coast against Bournemouth.
Liverpool's strength in depth up front has been staggering and adds an unpredictable nature to Jurgen Klopp's system, even without the supply from Trent Alexander-Arnold and the ruthless nature of Mohammed Salah.
Darwin Nunez has already racked up ten goals and ten assists in all competitions this season and is starting to prove his £80 million price tag. The Uruguayan is so unpredictable and Jurgen Klopp has recently praised the 24-year-old's ability " He plays outstanding, I have to say! The first year was the year to adapt but now he contributes all the time." The German is right about that as the Uruguayan is the first player in the Premier League to reach the ten goals and ten assists feat.
A huge boost for the Reds has been the selection of Alexis Mac Allister after sustaining an injury that kept him out for three weeks. The Argentinian has been fantastic since coming back and has filled in for Alexander-Arnold in the creativity department. With 6.53 progressive passes and 3.49 shot-creating passes per 90, the 23-year-old has stepped up in the absence of the outstanding Englishmen.
Despite the mounting injuries, Jurgen Klopp has consistently proved his critics wrong this season, and with returning players such as Thiago, Szoboszlai, Andrew Robertson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, we could see number 20 heading to Merseyside.
The Merseyside Reds have all the tools to create something special this campaign and there is a lot to look forward to in this "Liverpool 2.0" team. Even without Mohammed Salah, the Reds can go all the way and undo the below-par season prior to this one. Jurgen Klopp is on his way to creating a second dynasty at the club and this team has a lot more to give.
