BLUES AT THE BRIDGE!

The last time Chelsea beat a top 10 side was back in April 2022. With it being over a year since Chelsea beat a top 10 side in the Premier League, questions are really starting to be asked. Are there managerial problems at Chelsea, or is it deeper issues rooted in the club?

Chelsea Football Club have been through six managers in the last five years. In this time they have won; one FA Cup, one Champions league, one Europa League, one Fifa Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup. However, the club has received much criticism over the past few months due to their under performance in the Premier League.

Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea in 2004. His ownership came to end in May 2022 when Todd Boehly brought the club for £4.25 billion. Chelsea's total net spend under the ownership of Todd Boehly is currently £925 million, yet they landed in one of their lowest ever standing in the Premier League in the summer of 2022, coming 12th. Furthermore, they currently sit 14th in the Premier League, after only getting five points from the first five Premier League games. There appears to be deeper issues within Chelsea Football Club, that are yet to be solved.

Most Chelsea fans argue that the start of this downfall was after the sacking of manager Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel was sacked, in September 2022, on the morning after a Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb. This was only 4 months after winning the famous European trophy with the club. The sacking of Thomas Tuchel led to the appointment of former Brighton manager, Graham Potter.

Graham Potter has one of the worst records as a Chelsea manager. He managed 31 games for Chelsea; winning 12, drawing 8 and losing 11. This made life at Chelsea very difficult to walk into for new head coach and Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, who made his return to the club.

Chelsea fans are ready for a club restart! With Todd Boehly making nine winter signings and eight summer signings, The Blues are desperate for a change. However, the highest Chelsea transfer singings have been under performing. Chelsea singed Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115m but on his Chelsea debut against West Ham, he gave away a penalty inside 20 minutes, and he made the most fouls in the whole game, after only being on the pitch for half an hour. He has been underperforming for The Blues since.

With finishing 12th last year, not having any European football, Chelsea now focus on the Premier League and making top 4 for Champions League football, next season. Only time will tell if Mauricio Pochettino can lead his team to victory this season.
