This result has knocked out Vietnam, and they will be leaving the tournament after they play the Netherlands on Tuesday.
After 2 early goals in the first half from Telma Encarnacao and Kika Nazareth, the Portuguese have taken all 3 points and are still in the chance of getting out the group. But from all their pressure they would have wanted more that only a 2 goal advantage but due to many great saves by the Vietnam goalkeeper and hitting the cross bar 3 times they had to accept for a 2-0 win.
After making 7 changes to their line-up, it didn’t take long for the Portuguese to show their quality, after the 7th minute the Vietnam defence was very disjointed and Lucia Alves played it across to Encarnacao to half volley it into the back of the net from close range.
Portugal had full domination of the first half, where it only took them 5 minutes after scoring the first to get on the scoresheet again. This time the goal scorer became assist maker, where Encarnacao played a cute pass to Nazareth, who shot across goal to the left hand side and made it 2-0.
Throughout the first half, the Vietnam goalkeeper Thi Kim Tran made a tremendous amount of saves that kept the score line only 2-0 going into the break.
The second half was very much like the first, but the Portuguese had a lot less composure in their attacks and couldn’t capitalise on their great chances, which meant they didn’t add to the scoresheet.
The Vietnam winger, Thi Bich Nguyen, did create a few good chances for herself, but couldn’t make the goalkeeper work on either chance.

For the Portuguese there is still a chance they make it out the group, they will have to beat the 3 times World Cup champions USA to do so. Whereas for Vietnam, their World Cup will be over after they face the Netherlands on Tuesday.
