After a wave of ups and downs the 2024 African Cup of Nations is nearing the end with the semi-finals taking place tomorrow on the 7th of February. The teams that have gotten this far include Nigeria, South Africa and DR Congo and the host nation Ivory Coast. The final is due to take place on the Sunday 11 of February. To get this far Nigeria beat Angola and DR Congo beat Guinea. In addition to this South Africa defeated Cape Verde and Ivory Coast defeated Mali.
The host nation Ivory Coast have managed to get to the semi finals of this years African tournament. They have knocked out countries including previous tournament winners Senegal and competitor Mali. After getting through the group stage, last 16 and quarter finals they are now due to take on DR Congo. This is going to take place at the Alassane Ouattara, also known as the Olympic Stadium which is in Embimpe. The match between both African nations is due to kick off at 20:00 GMT time. Currently Ivory coast is the favorite team to win out of the two. A prediction that has been made is that Ivory Coast will win with 2-1 as an average goal prediction. Before now DR Congo have knocked out the likes of Guinea and fan favorites Egypt, cutting their time playing in AFCON 2024 short.
The other two teams that are due to battle it out against each other are Nigeria and South Africa. This game has had, and is having a rather big build up to the semi final as it is a big game for both teams to play against each other. The last time both of these sides came head to head was in the finals of the 2000 African Cup of nations, where Nigeria won 2-0. Nigeria are also known as the Super eagles. The super eagles hope to redo this performance and again attempt to beat South Africa and show the world and all of Africa that they have what it takes to go all the way and lift the trophy. However they do not have an easy opponent. South Africa have won the trophy once before but a rather long while ago. When it comes to prediction for this game, Nigeria are the favourites due to the fact that they have won the tournament three times and have a strong team. However they haven't won this event in nearly 10 years. Statistically nigeria have the most chance of winning this fixture and progressing into the final. This prediction of fans and officials swell.
